Fruit and Vegetable Seminar

April 8, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$10

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a fruit tree and vegetable gardening seminar for West Texas counties April 8th. The event will be broadcasted virtually to several in-person sites across the area for attendees to learn more about improving their fruit and vegetable production in the landscape.
From variety selection and planting, to managing soil and pests, there is plenty of information for homeowners to learn how to increase their fruit and vegetable harvest.
The counties hosting this meeting include Callahan, Coleman, Crane, El Paso, Glasscock, Irion, Llano, Mills, Nolan, Pecos, Presidio, Reeves, Taylor, Tom Green, Val Verde, and Winkler/Loving. The program will be presented at the various host sites via Zoom. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with program starting at 6 p.m. The cost of the program will be $10.
Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one general, one integrated pest management – will be offered.
The Irion County program will be taking place at the Extension Annex which is located at 209 N. Parkview Street (brick building behind the courthouse).
Larry Stein, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension Horticulturist will be presenting how to get the most out of fruit trees in the landscape. Key points include selecting the right varieties, proper use of fertilization, and tools to keep unwanted pests at bay. Stein is a leader in production horticulture and teaching best management practices for pecans, fruits, and vegetable crops.
Robert “Skip” Richter, AgriLife Extension Agent for Horticulture in Brazos county will also discuss using an IPM (integrated pest management) approach to vegetable gardening. A multifaceted approach to plant selection, soil preparation, and managing common pests.
This program promises to offer something to everyone that attends, regardless of your gardening experience. So, mark your calendars for April 8th, at 5:30p.m. and let us help you improve your green thumb.
